Our History
In the 1950’s, our founder Bob Colborne started an equipment rental business called Diversified Equipment Rentals. Ironically, rather than supplying generators or compressors, their first contract was to supply transportation for construction workers at the Sheritt Gordon plant site in Fort Saskatchewan, Alberta.
Using buses from Prairie Bus Lines (today, a sister company to Diversified Transportation) it soon became apparent to Mr. Colborne that opportunities lay not in the equipment rental business, but rather in the people transportation business. The rental company was transformed into Diversified Transportation Ltd. In 1964, the company repositioned vehicles in Fort McMurray to transport workers to the construction site of what would become the Great Canadian Oil Sands Corporation.
The first production shift began on the site in 1966 and Diversified introduced its daily ‘Employee Transportation Service’ for oil sands employees. The company has been providing safe and reliable Employee Transportation services for many of the oil sands companies in the region ever since.
