DTL Project Manager James Hodder wanted to share some of the amazing things Kitimat dispatcher Beatrice Ridsdale has been involved in recently.

Beatrice is featured front and centre in a very powerful photo that is part of Team Canada’s entry into the World Photographic Cup, an international competition that has been described as the Olympics of Photography.

On December 4th, WPC Team Canada released the 30 images selected to represent Canada. These talented photographers have captured moments that inspire, amaze and resonate.

In August 2023, Edmonton photographer Darlene Hildebrandt took the photo featuring Beatrice holding a feather in support of the families of missing and murdered Indigenous women. The incredible photo was captured in downtown Winnipeg during a spontaneous protest.

“I traveled with several Indigenous women from Alberta to Winnipeg to support the families of four murdered women whose bodies were left in a landfill by a serial killer. A spontaneous walk and protest lead to the takeover of the main downtown intersection where the two matriarchs lead a prayer and traditional ceremony. I love this image so much because it represents the resilience, hope, and strength of these women that I am proud to call my friends, as well as my own journey of reconciliation.”

The search for the remains of the murdered Indigenous women began on December 2nd after a two year public outcry to search the landfill.
