We are excited to announce that Diversified Transportation has been named the official transportation provider for the Edmonton Stingers and preferred Canadian Elite Basketball League (CEBL) provider for travelling teams arriving to Edmonton for the upcoming 2024 season.
About the Edmonton Stingers:
The Edmonton Stingers play a 20-game season in the Canadian Elite Basketball League, the top professional league in Canada with 10 teams in major markets from coast-to-coast. The Stingers joined the league in its inaugural season in 2019 and have twice been crowned CEBL Champions (2020 & 2021). Playing in the 3,600 seat Edmonton Expo Centre, the Stingers organizational mandate is to offer affordable, family friendly fun and be a positive force in the community.
The Stingers ran numerous impactful initiatives in Edmonton in 2023, including replacing over 500 mesh nets around the city, raising $500,000 to refurbish public school courts, and providing 400 new basketball shoes to a local charity for youth athletes, leading to the 2023 CEBL Community Champion Award. The team also launched The Stingers Foundation in 2023, a registered non-profit charitable arm of the club.
The Edmonton Stingers History:
- On May 2, 2018, it was announced that Edmonton would be one of the six cities to participate in the Canadian Elite Basketball League, with the team expected to play its inaugural season beginning in May 2019.[1] On June 22, 2018, it was announced that the team would be called the Edmonton Stingers.[2]
- The Edmonton Stingers played their inaugural game on May 10, 2019 against the Niagara River Lions, winning 118-105.[3] In their debut season, the Stingers were eliminated in the semifinals.
- In the 2020 season, Edmonton won its first CEBL championship after beating the Fraser Valley Bandits in the final, 90–73.[4] Xavier Moon, who scored 30 points, was named Most Valuable Player of the championship game.
- In the 2021 season, Edmonton won its second consecutive championship, making them the league’s first back to back champions 101-65 over the Niagara River Lions.
- On September 22, 2021 Edmonton announced that they would compete in the 2021–22 BCL Americas. In their debut, the Stingers defeated Real Estelí 84-81 in Managua, Nicaragua
